Union Leaders Take Steps to Pursue Positive Solutions Following Tentative Agreement Ballot Results

Following the conclusion of voting on the SEBAC 2011 tentative agreement (TA), leaders of the coalition’s 15 unions convened today to review results and to determine the next course of action.

The leaders of the unions in the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) reported on the balloting that took place over the last two weeks. Official results showed that 57% of participating members voted in favor of the TA. Broken down further, the majority vote for 26 of the coalition’s 34 bargaining units was to approve the agreement. Coalition leaders also confirmed that 11 of the 15 SEBAC voting unions supported the TA. (more…)

Update on Union Tentative Agreement Ratification Voting

As of today, it is clear we do not have sufficient support under the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition’s (SEBAC) strict rules to ratify the 2011 tentative agreement. On the other hand, it is clear that a majority of members and their unions voted in favor of the agreement.

The coalition’s democratic ratification process is a difficult one with a high threshold. The requirements that no more than one union vote to reject any agreement and that those voting “yes” represent at least 80% of all unionized employees in the coalition cannot be met. (more…)

SEBAC Does Not Dictate Negotiations or Ratification Rules of Constituent Unions; Supports Members’ Voices and Choices

At recent informational meetings, some state employees have asked about the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition’s (SEBAC) authority during recent discussions with the Malloy Administration. Some have specifically asked about the coalition’s role in negotiating individual bargaining unit agreements for the members of its constituent unions.

In the recent talks that produced the SEBAC 2011 tentative agreement (TA) currently being considered for ratification, union leaders adhered to a simple adage followed in the past: “We either hang together or we hang separately.” (more…)

Signed Tentative Agreement to Save Jobs & Benefits for State Workers

Leaders of the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) met Friday, May 27 and voted to recommend a tentative SEBAC agreement (SEBAC TA) with the Malloy Administration to be sent to union members.  That agreement covers pension and healthcare benefits, but also includes a recommended framework for agreement on wages and other issues to individual bargaining units.
