One year ago today, President Obama signed the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. And while the economy is finally showing small signs of recovery, unemployment persists at just under 10 percent.
Understandably then, the first word on everyone’s lips these days is “jobs.” Ned Lamont said it yesterday when he declared his candidacy for Governor. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said it last week in an unexpected reversal on bipartisan jobs legislation. And Governor Rell said it early this month when she unveiled her plan to spark job creation here in Connecticut, where unemployment sits at 8.9 percent.
Today, Where We Live, we’ll take a look at the complicated situation emerging around the federal jobs bill. We’ll also get the details of the latest economic outlook report from the University of Connecticut’s Fred Carstensen and we’ll consider the particulars of Governor Rell’s recent proposal aimed at training and keeping young workers in Connecticut.
