Union members with less than 5 years working for the state are the group with the least job security, the least monetary compensation and the bleakest outlook for retirement, and are THE ONLY union members to contribute another 3% of their pay towards supplementing a benefits package for ALL. This action has not only made it nearly impossible to make other retirement investments, which I need to do if I hope to retire before the age of 80, but makes me question as well my decision to leave a 28 year career in outside industry, where I was well compensated for effort, skill and dedication, not just for showing up. I understand that sacrifices needed to be made, but certainly you can see the unfairness and divisiveness of this provision. “In Solidarity” is only a fantasy if the burden is not shared equally!
